Vale of Clwyd 10k 2013 RESULTS.

The Vale of Clwyd 10k enjoyed another good turnout despite 40 DNS from those pre-registered – perhaps celebrating Wales’ victory over England too much the night before??!! The VOC 10k 2013 enjoyed ideal running conditions and it was Simon Roberts (Buckley) who took the honours with a winning time of 36:03, whilst Isobel Redfearn (Colwyn Bay AC) retained the ladies title in 40:54. Mention must go to Gary Norgrove of Wrexham Tri, who took 3rd place last year and was leading fairly comfortably at the 5km stage, looking well set for a win when he accidentally took a short-cut and therefore couldn’t be awarded the race win, as all other competitors completed the full course.
Many thanks to all runners and marshals who took part and helped to deliver another successful vale of clwyd race and I hope to welcome you back soon.

Well I have had a fantastic day today. Am feeling 100% again after a bout of illness last week and have been full of beans all day. The weather has been almost perfect for outdoor training today and I have been out in it all day with clients, with lots of Personal Training and a Nordic Fitness and a Forest Fitness session involved too. The highlight has got to be the sunset over the Snowdonian mountains from the Clwydian ridge at 6pm – breathtaking! The days also continue to get longer, what an optimistic time of year, especially when the sun is shining and fitness levels are rising…well done everybody

Well I certainly have some dedicated clients. The last few weeks and months have certainly brought us some extremes when it comes to the weather, flash floods, snow and ice, and most recently some very strong winds in which me and my clients have been exercising once again today and this evening! Two words that immediately spring to mind for me are invigorating and refreshing! You can also add to that – satisfying and energising! It’s easy for me though, I am used to it and I absolutely LOVE being out there, in all weathers, but I have got to salute my clients – both group and personal who have, and continue to do battle with the elements to get out there and exercise in the great outdoors. Of course, my presence with them helps to get them out there, as even the most seasoned outdoor exerciser looks out of the window from time to time and thinks ‘no, not today.’ That is easy to do, but time after time you keep coming out and giving me your all during our sessions. It’s relatively easy for me to give you direction, and the right programming – it’s a lot harder for you to deliver that through hard work and application. So, in summary, to all of my clients …well done and keep it going-the Spring (and hopefully some sunshine) is on it’s way!!!

Well I am really excited at this time of year, as it is always a time when I assess and decide upon a range of things to do and achieve for the coming year. I have the Excalibur Marathon coming up in March, as well as (the week after) a traverse of the 110mile Cleveland Way. April brings a 3 peaks challenge involving cycling between the peaks, as well as climbing them of course!! A coast to coast mountain bike trip in Wales is on the cards for the early summer as well as a sustrans long distance route yet to be confirmed with Mrs C! In addition I am keen to get over to some of the isolated mountains in Snowdonia and Mid-Wales to tick off the final few of the 138 mountains in wales I have yet to summitt. There are bound to be lots more adventures undertaken on impulse, and the great ting is that there is so much to do! We have a wonderful outdoor playground which to explore and I’d urge all to set themselves some targets with regards to getting active outside – whether it is to undertake your first ascent of Moel Famau, to try a new exercise activity or to just simply exlpore new areas that you know exist, yet haven’t quite got around to exploring. It is a really positive thing to have goals, no matter how small or large so I would urge you to make one or two of yours fro 2013 to involve getting out there amongst our spectacular countryside!

Last Sunday saw 75ish runners gather on a windswept Moel Famau for the annual Jubilee Plunge fell race – involving a fast and furious descent via whichever route you choose, to the back garden of the Golden Lion Llangynhafal….a truly exhilirating run and at 2.2 miles, short and fast in terms of fell runs. The mad dash from the start was great fun, and 13.28 secs later I found myself finishing in a respectable 17th place. A few of my clients completed this race, running brilliantly – a run of this nature tests your ability on rough ground at pace and as well as a good degree of confidence and fitness, skill is required as the ability to pick your lines at pace is essential to you getting down safely and in the quickest time possible. A thorough workout of not just the primary, large muscle group but the smaller, stabilisers in and around the joints and the core belt…all of which were sore for me until Tuesday! To sum up, a great run in fabulous local scenery
